Conspiracy of Venus
Launching their second New York City tour this May, the all-women's vocal ensemble Conspiracy of Venus is offering a special event celebrating the poetry of Bertolt Brecht, premiering for the first time ever on the East Coast a setting of Brecht’s poem "In Praise of Doubt,” composed by Conspiracy of Venus director Joyce Todd McBride. The choir will also perform McBride's setting of Brecht's "The Buddha's Parable of the Burning House,” along with signature renditions of fan favorites by The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, The Grateful Dead, and more!

Grammy-nominated saxophonist/pianist/composer Peter Apfelbaum, known as leader of the genre-mashing ensembles New York Hieroglyphics and Sparkler, appears in duet with drummer/percussionist/oud master April Centrone. Apfelbaum's polyrhythmic improvisational approach - rooted in West African music, gospel music and jazz - combines with Centrone's mastery of Middle Eastern rhythms. Their set will include material from Apfelbaum's upcoming solo CD, "Songs Of The Tree Of Destiny" (Loove Arts)

Peter Apfelbaum - piano, saxophones, flute
