Reggie Young
Reggie Young
Grammy award winning, session bassist, Reggie Young and his unorthodox style of bass playing has turned heads in the music industry which unleashed gigs with stars such as Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Paul Shaffer, Stevie Wonder, Will. i. am., Ruben Studdard and many more. Born in New York, Reggie began playing bass at age 12. Reggie's roots were established in a small church located in the small village of Hempstead L.I. where he quickly became nationally recognized and sought after as a session bassist. Early in his professional career Young recorded on dozens of gospel artists records which brought him international acclaim and along with it came an international fan base.
In 2010, Fodera guitars of Brooklyn (arguably the world leader in custom bass guitars) approached Reggie at N.A.M.M. and told him they wanted to begin production on the first Reggie Young Signature Fodera bass. This was an unprecedented venture that Reggie accepted. Young understood only a few of the worlds elite bassists such as Anthony Jackson, Christian McBride, Victor Wooten, Matthew Garrison, Richard Bona, James Genus, Tom Kennedy and Oteil Burbridge, hold that title. And now, Reggie has joined the ranks.
In 2011, Reggie was unanimously selected to be the bassist at the World Famous Apollo Theater in NYC. There you'll find Young playing in the house band and from time to time standing in as the musical director performing weekly to sold-out audiences.
In 2017, The New School N.Y.C. (music college), asked Reggie to lead their 2017 marketing campaign as "The New Professor".
This ongoing campaign placed Young on billboard ads throughout New York City. Check out our photos page to see some of the street ads. New York City has always been Reggie's platform. Clubs, theaters and churches have always been the stages where he continues to fine tune his unique musical legacy.
