Join us for an evening with The Simple Radicals at The Cutting Room.

Just when some newer rock bands have set aside the serious six-string in exchange for atmospherics and synths, along comes a group fueled by electric guitars and cunning lyrics that both observe and re-imagine the current state of society. And they do all this while avoiding the self-righteousness that can sour the sound of message bands. The band captures what’s currently going on in the world with an honest, poignant and straight-from-the-heart energy and retro-rock and roll sound with lyrics reflecting what society is facing today. The Simple Radicals are lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter John Malkin and lead guitarist John Griffin. The band also includes drummer Griff Johnson and bass guitarist Mike Cangemi.

The band’s first release off their debut album, New Revolution is the hard-driving “Medicate,” which reflects the overindulgence in and over-reliance on drugs in our society – opiates, anti-depressants, and drugs designed purely to elate – certainly not a topic unfamiliar to the music world. Living Colour lead guitarist, Vernon Reid collaborated with the band to deliver a blistering solo that captures the fiery madness of the epidemic. "Medicate" is currently playing across the country and overseas on numerous digital radio stations and will be on terrestrial and college radio this Fall.

The Simple Radicals played a series of shows this past summer supporting their debut album and were invited to play festivals with Stone Temple Pilots as well as Blue Oyster Cult.

Eric Sherman, current manager of the band Poison and former manager of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Motley Crue and Living Colour says this about the band: "“It’s great to have The Simple Radicals lead the charge in bringing back that true retro-rock sound. Their songs are smart and played with passion and energy.” And Living Colour lead guitarist Vernon Reid says: “I played on this really cool tune ’Medicate’ by The Simple Radicals about the way people use substances to self-medicate to deal with stress and anxiety. It reminds me of the sad passing of Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and so many other wonderful artists who succumb to that issue.”
