From Russia with Swing
Founded by Russian immigrants, "From Russia with Swing" is a Brooklyn-based big band. These musicians found new careers in America after they immigrated, but keep their love of music alive, playing together and meeting weekly at the dental office of drummer and band co-founder Mark Rosen. The band is led by arranger and conductor Zinovy Pritsker, who was a leading musician in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) playing clarinet / saxophone and leading a popular jazz band in a well known international club. Soloists in the band include singer singer Varvara Rogovich (Moscow) and trumpet player Pasha Karchevsky (Moscow). The repertoire focuses on American standard Jazz music by Duke Ellington, Neal Hefti, Frank B. Foster, Kurt Weill, and Paul Anka, with arrangements by Sam Nestico, Zinovy Pritsker, Frank B. Foster, and others.
